SPECIALIST BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST
Salary scale: £28,050 - £37,010
This is an opportunity to join a progressive department situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland. We are seeking a HCPC registered BMS with IBMS Specialist portfolio in Medical Microbiology who will contribute to development of the service. We provide a comprehensive Microbiology service to clinicians throughout the NHS Highland area; specimens for the Scottish Toxoplasma Reference Laboratory and a specialist service for Lyme disease are also received from other health boards.
The department is divided into 3 sections: Culture (comprising bacterial culture, antibiotic sensitivity, antigen detection), Molecular (bacteria and virus [including toxoplasma cell culture]) and Serology (comprising bacterial and viral serology, Parasitology [Toxoplasma and Lyme disease Reference Laboratories] and Immunology tests). The post involves weekend and public holidays as required by the department , and participation in the out-of-hours on-call service.
Applicants must be HCPC registered and have current experience working in Bacteriology . You are required to have professional knowledge and technical expertise of laboratory sciences attained either through relevant Masters Degree or IBMS specialist portfolio in Medical Microbiology. You should also have extensive experience of practical laboratory work including following written protocols and procedures. You must possess excellent communication skills, including written, written and be fully computer literate.
