Surgical Specialties Division - Ophthalmology (Raig) ,Raigmore Hospital




40,842 to 76,161 per annum pro rata


We are looking for a Specialty Doctor to compliment the Ophthalmology Department based at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

This post is full time at 40 hours per week and is a permanent post.

The Ophthalmology Department comprises ten Consultants; one Associate Specialist; two Specialty Registrars, Optometrists and Orthoptists. Current subspecialty interests provided by the department include Glaucoma, Vitreo-retinal, Oculoplastics, Cornea/anterior segment, Paediatrics and Medical Retina.

The candidate will play an active role in the Macular/Medical Retina Service based at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. In addition the candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in theatre and be expected to manage eye emergencies. The department has a commitment to provide services to peripheral clinics in the Western Isles, Orkney, Caithness, Skye and Lochaber. The job plan is likely to involve commitments to these locations as the need arises. Participation in a 1:5 on-call rota (08.00 to 20.00 only) is being developed alongside another new clinical post and will be implemented upon appointment to both posts. The post also offers the opportunity for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.

Our unique geography requires innovative development in virtual clinics and telemedicine to meet the clinical need and standardised best quality of care. The unit has 3 Heidelberg Spectralis OCT scanners, a Kowa non-mydriatic camera, Zeiss Humphrey VF analysers, Reichert ORA and iCaretonometers, Pascal laser, SLT laser, YAG laser, and cyclodiode laser. Outpatient care is via either traditional consultant-led clinics, Optometrist-led shared care clinics or Virtual clinics dependent have ample opportunity to be trained with a view to delivering independent cataract lists (dependent on experience) and training trainees in surgery.
